Gatekeeping: Understanding Our Individual Power in Supporting Equity

October 6, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

As we work toward equity in the academy, one way to make change is to identify and examine the gatekeepers– what gates do students or faculty have to pass through to achieve the success they are seeking? Who is let in, and who is left out of leadership positions, research awards, PhD programs, and faculty positions and promotions?
Join us for this workshop, led by presenter Morgain MacDonald, to:
  • Identify policies, practices, etc. that prevent or encourage diverse groups when accessing your organization
  • Identify how everyone within the organization has power and influence over gatekeeping
  • Identify personal and organizational action steps to increase access

Light refreshments will be available outside of the Vandenberg Room mid workshop.

Morgain MacDonald has over 15 years experience in the non-profit sector, and as a consultant has worked with universities, non-profits, secondary schools, and private sector businesses. She has focused her work on teaching tools that allow for personal reflection and growth – integral aspects of social change. Morgain holds a Bachelors in American Culture from the University of Michigan, and a Masters in Public Administration from the Evans School of Public Policy and Governance at the University of Washington.

This workshop has reached capacity.
