Dr. Ketra L. Armstrong, (a proud Tupelo, MS native), is a Professor of Sport Management in the School of Kinesiology, where she directs Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion and the Center for Race & Ethnicity in Sport. She also holds the position of University Diversity & Social Transformation Professor and is affiliated with U-M Departments of Afroamerican and African Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies, and the Institute for Research on Women and Gender. Dr. Armstrong is a member of the Diversity Scholars Network at the National Center for Institutional Diversity (NCID) and serves as U-M’s NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative. Previously, Dr. Armstrong was a Professor and Director of the Graduate Program in Sport Management at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), and held positions as Assistant and Associate Professor of Sport Management at The Ohio State University (OSU). Her scholarly focus spans race, gender, and social psychology in sport and leisure consumption and the management thereof, with research published in journals such as the Journal of Sport Management, Sport Marketing Quarterly, and Journal of Black Psychology. She is recognized as a Research Fellow in the North American Society for Sport Management and a Fellow in the National Academy of Kinesiology. Dr. Armstrong’s professional background includes roles as a former NCAA Division I scholarship athlete, coach, and athletic administrator, contributing significantly to advising, consulting, research, and management across various levels of sport. In addition to her academic pursuits, Dr. Armstrong has received accolades for her commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, including the U-M Harold L. Johnson Diversity Service Award and the Charles D. Henry Award from SHAPE America.Dr. Armstrong has also made contributions as a freelance sport journalist and media personality, hosting Insight Sports: Ketra’s Korner and serving as a sports reporter and color analyst for women’s basketball. Currently, Dr. Armstrong is writing a book on Race and Sport and remains active in delivering presentations and workshops on diversity, inclusion, and social justice.
